AGC Flower Show Retrospective 2000-2017<\/a><\/h2>\n

March 13 – 17, 2019 Held at the Seaport World Trade Center<\/p>\n

The Massachusetts Horticultural Society presented Floral Design Classes open to all designers titled \u201cIsland Getaway\u201d.\u00a0 Maureen Christmas and Thelma Shoneman entered designs in the Judges\u2019 Invitational\u00a0 Exhibit, \u201c Angel Falls\u201d, A Cascade Design.<\/p>\n

Maureen won 1st<\/sup> place on Entry Day 1 and was awarded the John Taylor Arms Award the top award for highest point scoring design in the entire show, as well as the Natalie Wolf Creativity Award.\u00a0 Thelma won a blue ribbon on Day 2.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Noreen Rowe created an Alfresco Table Design for Class 1, \u201cLunch on the Beach\u201d, and was awarded an Honorable Mention for her colorful interpretation. Nancy Tighe entered \u201cSandy Toes\u201d, a Sandal made of all dried plant material and was awarded a Third place ribbon.<\/p>\n

Sue Whitcomb and Thelma Shoneman exhibited designs in the Ikebana International Division of the show.\u00a0 They are both members of the Sogetsu school .\u00a0 Both served as docents in the exhibition area and Thelma presented a demo for the Sogetsu school.<\/p>\n

March 14 – 18, 2018<\/p>\n

Thelma Shoneman – Ikebana International Exhibit, Sogetsu School.<\/p>\n

As part of the Ikebana International exhibit at the Boston Flower and Garden Show, I chose to do a Free Style design in 2 containers representing the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. The design type also includes characteristics of a Composition of curved lines or repetition of similar forms. I chose a container with a curved shape. Using bending techniques, I created circles of Rubikins willow, and manipulated the Aspidistra leaves to express the sense of rhythm. Ikebana designs are not judged but exhibited to discover the beauty of plants and the pleasure of self-expression.<\/p>\n

\nEntry day 2, Class 104 “I Love Paris in the Springtime”
\nOne of the most romantic cities in the world, Paris has a place in history for its influence in design. A Traditional Design created in the manner of French Rococo staged on a pedestal 36″ high with a 14″ diameter top.<\/p>\n

Plant materials: Larkspur, Carnation, Lathyrus, Stock, Peony, Poppy, Fern, Ranunculus, Rose, Spray rose, Goldenrod, Tulip<\/p>\n
