President's Message

Dear Garden Club Members,

Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 year of the Acton Garden Club. In this spectacular Yearbook you will find descriptions of many wonderful opportunities to learn and do with fellow members of the Club. There are 11 general meetings (we meet all summer long) with a wide variety of excellent speakers, nine Horticulture Study meetings whose programs are largely member-led, and Floral Design workshops led by our own Master Judges. In addition, this Yearbook has descriptions of our five Community Service committees that provide us with several important ways to give to our community. Participating in one of the Community Service committees is required of all Active Members.

A separate section of the Yearbook lists learning opportunities sponsored by the Garden Club Federation of MA, (sometimes referred to simply as the Federation, or GCFM) of which our Club is a member. Among the many courses offered by the Federation are the Landscape Design School, Flower Show School, and courses on Designing Principles. Many of our Club members have completed Federation classes and will be happy to share their experience with you.

I hope you will take a few moments to review all the sections of the Yearbook. That will be a learning experience in itself.

Please join me in thanking the Yearbook committee (see page 24), chaired by Pat Kosicki, who have created a masterpiece. Just when I think it can’t get any better, it does! Isn't that cover painting by Sue Whitcomb awesome?

~ All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds of today. ~

I have chosen this statement as my theme because I think it incorporates the looking forward that all gardeners do. It also suggests that as a Club, we can plant seeds in our community that will lead to the flowers of future years. As individuals, we can plant seeds for tomorrow's flowers by taking courses offered by the Federation, by working on the Community Service committees, and by sharing our knowledge with other members of the Club, both informally and as part of Horticulture Study and Floral Design programs. I hope we, as a Club and as individual members of the Club, will grow magnificent flowers for all our tomorrows by planting seeds today.
