xx | Joan Yatteau - Third Place Design Division I - Section A - Class 1 - The Maine Woods - an All Foliage Design, dried branches and ornamental wood were not allowed (this conforms with the Tricolor Award requirements), and flowers, fruit, berries etc. were not allowed (this conforms with the requirements of an All Foliage Design as stated in the Flower Show Handbook. Plant material: Rex-cultorum begonia, Red Bor kale, Lutea false cypress, Barrenwort, Inkberry, Veriagated fetterbush, Blue Leymus grass, New Zealand flax, White Spruce, Japanese black pine, Baryak rhododrondron, Berggarten sage, Western red cedar, Bear Grass, Adam's needle |
Joan Gardner - First Place Design Division I - Section A - Class 2 - The China Trade - a Traditional Design, required all fresh plant material to conform with the Tricolor award and needed to have the form of a traditional design, as described in the Handbook, generally having to do with abundance and placement of floral material (as opposed to a Creative Design, which may have very little plant material arranged in non-traditional ways). xx | Thelma Shoneman - First Place and Designer's Choice Award Design Division I - Section A - Class 5 - Gifts from the Sea - an Underwater Design, eligible for the Designer's Choice Award. Thelma chose a large and very lobster-like heliconia for her underwater design and used water-absorbent granules in the containers which kept the water clear. Other underwater designs in the show were cloudy by the end of the show even with the use of a small amount of bleach in the water. Plant material: Mini Banksia, Lobster Claw, Lily Grass |
