High School Scholarship

Annual Student Scholarship

The Acton Garden Club annually awards one $4000 or two $2000 scholarships to high school students who reside in Acton. The candidates must display academic excellence and intend to pursue a career in Environmental related studies, i.e., Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Conservation, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Climate Control or other related disciplines.

There are two recipients this year.

Sara Karp will be attending New York University. Her goal is to improve the world through education with an emphasis on the environment and climate change. While at AB, she worked at the Our Climate Organization and helped write a bill presented to the State legislature called the Interdisciplinary Climate Justice Education Act. In addition, she has volunteered with Boston Area Gleaners, Mass Audubon and Drumlin Farm Camp. The committee feels that Sara will make a lasting impact in her field.

Austin Kim will be attending Claremont McKenna College. He plans to study Environmental Science and Public Policy. Austin is very involved in the Our Climate Organization as well as Mass Power Forward and The Nature Connection. He looks at the big picture and works hard to achieve his goals. The committee believe that Austin will improve the environment with his talents and dedication to hard work.
